Wildcats start strong at Superior Tournament

The St. Catherine volleyball team finished 2-0 at the end of day one at the UW-Superior volleyball tournament. The Wildcats defeated Northland 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21) then moved on to defeat host UW-Superior 3-2 (17-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13).

Kayla Sis continued to her strong play this season, leading the team with 22 kills. Sis was followed closely by Megan Ahlbrecht (18), Maria Hoffman (17) and Brittni Wangerin (17) in the kills department.

Nicole Pothen and Nicole Neumann led the team with 37 and 35 digs respectively.

Neumann also contributed seven service aces, and Sis four aces to their daily totals.

Nina Lindquist had 70 set assists in the two games.

Coach Hess was pleased with her team's effort on day one. Hess particularly noted that "they didn't give in. They fought for every point and overcame the challenges together. That will definitely help us as we continue to progress through the season."
 
The Wildcats, who lead pool A after day one of the tournament will now face Central College at 12:00 pm and Hamline at 2:00 pm to close out the tournament.
